The Goose that laid golden eggs

The Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs

In a quiet, dusty corner of a forgotten town, there lived an old man named Venkateshwara and his wife, Adhiti. They shared a life of simple means in a cozy, albeit shabby, cottage at the edge of the woods. Though they had little, they were comfortable—until the day their fortune changed forever.

One morning, Venkateshwara went to the nest of their pet goose and found, to his utter disbelief, a glittering, yellow egg. It wasn't just any egg; it was solid gold. Day after day, the miracle repeated itself. Every morning, the goose provided a single, heavy, golden egg.

Soon, the shabby cottage began to transform. The walls were painted, the roof was repaired, and the couple’s table was filled with the finest foods.

However, as their wealth grew, so did their impatience. One evening, as they sat by the fire, Adhiti turned to her husband with a glint of obsession in her eyes.

"Why must we wait every single day for just one egg?" she whispered. "If that bird can lay such treasures, its insides must be made of pure gold! If we take it all at once, we could be the richest people in the world by tonight."

Venkateshwara, blinded by the same desire for more, agreed. He didn't want to wait; he wanted it all.

Driven by a feverish greed, the couple seized the goose and killed it. But as they looked inside, their hearts sank into their stomachs. The goose was just like any other goose; there was no golden hoard, no hidden treasure.

Now, they had neither the gold nor the bird that produced it. They sat in their beautiful house, surrounded by luxury they could no longer sustain, realizing that in trying to get everything, they had lost the very thing that made them rich.

Moral: Greed brings grief. Those who want everything all at once often end up with nothing at all.
